Celebrating Festivals with Love & Style #3 Zarina Abu Bakar – Shah Alam Toastmasters Club

Light Up Your Life!

Area B3 Director, Rathipriyah, with her creative efforts to vivify the Table Topics session.

There are many reasons why people from all around the world gravitate towards Toastmasters, like moths to a flame. Like fire, giving off warmth and light, Toastmasters provides encouragement, motivation, and support that push members to realize their potentials and achieve their goals. The positive push comes from the gentle but constant feedback, given and received at each and every meeting.

Shah Alam Toastmasters Club, a club established in 1997 in District 102, held its 570th meeting on the 10th of November. We had 20 participants, members and guests from seven different clubs within Malaysia. With the theme “Light Up Your Life“, the meeting exemplified the best of Toastmasters: goodwill, camaraderie, friendship, learning, and feedback.

President Zarina Abu Bakar, ACG ALB, opened the meeting with a call to all to find the spark of purpose within them. The Table Topics session was creatively handled by Rathipriyah Balsan, ACG ALB,  who delighted us by using objects as topics: cookies, a light, bangles, and even a saree. The Project Speakers spoke on a wide range of topics – life, self-esteem, plastics and the need to adapt and organize.

Leading the evaluations and underscoring the importance for honest yet constructive feedback was the GE, Uma Vasudevan from Gasing Hills TMC. The meeting concluded on a delightful, vivifying note when the winners of the speech, table topics, and evaluation segments were announced.

We all have a certain light glowing inside us, which may at times be extinguished by events, people, or time. What Toastmasters does through its meetings, is to vivify the flame, to enable every member and guest to shine, even if it may be for only a few seconds. Nevertheless, it is up to us to fan this flame of purpose and use it to light up our lives as well as the lives of others.
